We are delighted to announce that we are a proud partner of Bord Bia’s Origin Green Sustainability Programme. We strive to approach everything we do in the most sustainable and ethical way possible, so naturally we are committed to making the best choices to minimise our impact on the environment.
What is Origin Green?
Origin Green is Ireland’s pioneering food and drink sustainability programme, operating on a national scale, uniting government, the private sector and the full supply chain from farmers to food producers and right through to the foodservice and retail sectors. The programme is the worlds’ only national food and drink sustainability programme, and enables the industry to set and achieve measurable sustainability targets that respect the environment and serve local communities more effectively.
The White Hag Sustainability Commitments
As Origin Green members we are focusing on key areas to drive our sustainability mission.
Committed to Responsible Sourcing
We are committed to sourcing from sustainability-certified suppliers and prioritising Irish suppliers where possible.
Focused on Reducing Environmental Impact
We have taken steps towards a more sustainable brewery by commissioning a new brewhouse that utilises 95% of the malt potential, reducing our consumption footprint and increasing resource efficiency.
Support our Local Community
Every year we host an international brewery festival that attracts over 1,500 tourists to Sligo and Ballymote. Unlike other beer festivals, we bring 24 brewery representatives over a day before the festival and treat them to some local attractions in Sligo. In 2018 the festival brought in an estimated €250,000 into the local economy across the weekend.
Looking forward, our whole journey at The White Hag is about sustainability; starting with suppliers and filtering through to every part of the business. From our suppliers, to processes and into our local community – we are committed to making better decisions to help the environment.
